In-Home Respite Services
Caring for a loved one with developmental or medical support needs is meaningful — but it can also be demanding. Heart of Humanity’s In-Home Respite Services provide temporary, professional care in your home, so family caregivers have the rest, flexibility, and support they deserve. In-Home Respite is a Regional Center-authorized service. It offers short-term relief to family members while your loved one receives safe, compassionate care at home. The service is tailored to your needs and planned through your Individual Program Plan (IPP).
Employer of Record (EOR) Respite
With the Employer of Record model:
You choose a care provider — often someone you already trust to care for your loved one (like a friend or community member).
Heart of Humanity, as an authorized EOR respite agency, hires that person on your behalf and handles all employer documentation, payroll, and compliance.
You may have direct input into scheduling, training, and supervision of the respite caregiver, while we manage the administrative employment responsibilities.
This option gives families greater choice and flexibility in selecting someone who meets their loved one’s needs and preferences, while relieving the family from the administrative burden of employment tasks.
EOR Eligibility & Requirements
To participate in the Employer of Record respite model, the respite caregiver must:
Be 18 years or older.
Be cleared through required background checks and onboarding.
Meet any other training or certification requirements determined by Heart of Humanity and Regional Center policy.
Live outside of your home
Must be CPR Certified
This model is a great choice for families who want more control over who provides respite while still having the support of a licensed agency to handle employment logistics.
Agency-Provided Respite
Agency In-Home Respite Services provide intermittent or regularly scheduled temporary care and supervision in the individual’s home, designed to:
Relieve primary caregivers from constant care responsibilities.
Provide appropriate supervision and support tailored to your loved one’s needs.
Ensure continued health, safety, and daily routine in a familiar setting.
Regional Centers authorize the number of respite hours as part of the person-centered planning process, based on your family’s assessed needs.
